Recently I was watching an older episode of the "New Adventures of The Old Christine".   During the show she went back and watched the video of her wedding.  It made me think about whether you will hire a videographer along with your photographer.  So I went to Leslie Harris-Senac Film Maker/Owner Visions Unlimited.  Leslie has been a professional videographer for 25 years.  Leslie started in broadcast TV at PBS in New Orleans as an intern putting herself through college.  With her experience I thought she was the best guest blogger I could have on our site to help you with this decision.  Here is what Leslie has put together for us:

1. Experience -
It's important to hire a videographer who is capable of staying "2 steps" ahead of the action. An experienced videographer will predict what's next and be ready with plenty of tape and battery power to capture the many different aspects of your wedding day. I can't tell you how many times I've heard brides who regret not hiring a professional because Uncle Charlie ran out of battery power during the ceremony or worst yet, lost the tape entirely.

2. Professional Microphones & Lights -
Only a true professional will have a large investment in the essential additional equipment needed for capturing perfect audio and video. It's important to make sure that proper audio equipment is used to hear all the words of your vows & readers during your ceremony. The toasts and music during your reception will enhance your memories too. Most banquet halls are very dark at night, and additional lighting is needed to insure proper color saturation. I have chosen cameras that are rated the BEST for low-light sensitivity. At night, I add a little accent lighting to fill in the shadows. This makes a huge difference in how your footage looks. Have you ever seen "muddy" looking video with very little color? This is because most cameras will not work in low light. There's a fine line between adding a little light to improve colors, and blasting your guests with unnecessary spot lights. I walk that line and am very sensitive to keep the mood by using minimal lighting.

3. Creativity -
Every wedding is different and has a unique rhythm to it.  Creating a truly fun and entertaining wedding video involves more than professional equipment, it takes an eye for beauty. Your wedding videographer should capture the "texture and flavor" of your special day with style. Your wedding video will allow you to relive all the excitement of your special day, with a full range of emotions; tears and laughter, quickly paced editing & slow romantic moments. You will want to view a videographers work before making the decision to hire them. You may see samples of my work at: www.BeautifulVideos.com

4. Works well with others -
Make sure your videographer works as a team with your photographer, wedding coordinator & DJ. A true professional will work next to your chosen team of experts to insure that things unfold smoothly and naturally. There is a certain amount of grace and flexibility needed. The many details of your wedding will be efficiently taken care of when you hire real professionals. You should be able to relax and enjoy your wedding day, knowing we are taking care of everything for you!

5. Personality -
Your photographer & videographer may be with you for the majority of your wedding day. Make sure you hire people that you'll be comfortable with. Especially for your "getting ready" shots, it's important to hire a videographer with integrity and discretion. Make sure your videographer is a professional and will dress appropriately for your special occasion.
