Here’s where longevity comes into play when you are seeking a wedding photographer or even a photographer for any of your events. You want to know that the photographer is going to be around in case number 1: you want to use them again or number 2: you lost your files etc. Caring about you and your photography is vital to longevity.
Recently we participated in 2 bridal shows. One was at the Hyatt and the other at Laurel Oak Country Club. At both of these events we met brides who were there with their bridesmaids. The one bride was very concerned about whom to hire. You know why? Longevity? Her friend proceeded to tell me how her photographer was late for their wedding. Her photographs were MIA for 4 months. When she finally got them they were horrible. She tried to call the photographer. Guess what? He longer was anywhere to be found. Obviously he didn’t have longevity. This poor girl experienced what we had (our photographer was horrible when we got married and what few photographs we have leave much to be desired) and she didn’t want that to happen with her friend.
Second bride comes up to talk and says her friend got married came back from her honeymoon and called her photographer. The number was no longer in service and he was nowhere to be found. She was frantic calling all her guests to see if anyone had any kind of decent photographs of their wedding. Did her photographer have longevity? No.
So how do you avoid this happening to you? Longevity. When choosing a photographer you want to make sure they are here to stay.
You wedding photography or any photography needs to be captured by professional photographers who have a code of ethics and have your best interests at heart.
Recently we were at a venue where they asked us to leave some of our business cards. Of course we always love doing that. I might add we also love getting together with other professional photographers as we do in the wedding association we belong to. When I saw some cards from some “photographers” I’ve never heard or seen of before I took one of their cards to contact them. Many times we are booked for a date and if we can refer to another photographer that is up to our quality standards we will. So I went online to check out these “photographers”. Here is what I found. Out of the 6 cards I had only 2 had websites that were up and running. The others websites no longer existed nor did there phone numbers.
I can’t begin to tell you how important it is to meet with your photographers. If they are charging too little what do you think the chances are of them having longevity? When you own and operate a business you have to make sure that you not only offer a quality service but also that you offer it at a cost that keeps you in business.
Just think about it. If you were to work at your full time job for half the salary how long would you last being able to pay your rent, food, car etc? It’s no different with a “photographer” who charges way too little. Will he have longevity? How could they?
